Sacrifice or Qurbani: Philosophy and Rules. Qurbani: Are you ready? With Qurbani 1437 just days away, much excitement has set in. Preparations are underway, knives are being sent for sharpening, butchers are readying themselves for the influx of meat, and families are setting themselves up for a day of sacrificial slaughtering. The blood stained clothes, the stench-filled yard, the sight of children equally terrified and fascinated by having animals in their midst are all part of the Ibadah of Qurbani. But there is more significance to it than it being a day of commemoration: HazratAaisha (RadhiyallahuAnha) reports that Rasulullah (SallallahuAlayhiWasallam) said: “The son of Adam (Alayhis Salaam) does not perform any action on the day of Nahr (EidulAdha) which is more beloved to Allah Ta’ala than causing the blood (of the Qurbani animals) to flow”(MishkaatulMasaabih Vol.1 Pg.128). Firstly:  Undoubtedly children are one of the blessings and adornments of this world, and one of the greatest purposes of marriage is to produce offspring. A righteous child is a treasure for his parents in this world and in the Hereafter, and his righteous deeds will be recorded in the balance of his parents’ deeds. A man or a woman may be faced with lack of children or delay of having children. What they must do is be patient and seek reward, and say a lot of du’aa’ and prayers for forgiveness. They should understand that Allaah only decrees things for a reason. If a person has available Islamically acceptable means of getting children, there is nothing wrong with his pursuing that. But the Muslim should beware of false ways involving sihr (witchcraft) and myths, and he should beware of doctors who do not fear Allaah and whose main aim is to make money from those who want to have children. QURBANI RULES

QURBANI RULES Below is a brief guide to the rules and recommendations of Qurbani. Qurbani must only be performed on the tenth, eleventh and twelfth days of Dhul-Hijjah. You can order your Qurbani before this time, but the sacrifice must be carried out on the correct day. The first day is always better than the second, whilst the second is better than the last (Muslim Aid ensures sacrifices take place on Eid day). Qurbani is to be offered  by those who can afford it and meet other specific requirements; you must be a Muslim of sound mind, mature (have reached puberty), not aShar'itraveller, and in possession of 52.5 tolas of silver, or the equivalent in wealth. If you are obliged to offer Qurbani but miss the date, you are liable to pay compensation. It is not compulsory for children and the insane to practice Qurbani, nor are their guardians expected to perform Qurbani on their behalf.
